Described in one review as ‘the Jeff Buckley of jazz’, Richard Navarro (formerly known as Richard J Lewis) is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Canterbury fusing powerful lyrics and soulful melodies with a strong jazz sensibility and swing.
The breathtaking energy and atmosphere of Richard’s live shows have won the songwriter a growing following and coverage on regional television and local, national and digital radio. As well as playing festivals, theatres, clubs and pubs across his home county of Kent, Richard’s performances have included Bush Hall, Water Rats, the Troubadour, Pizza Express and Folkestone’s newest concert venue Quarterhouse.
Richard Navarro is a singer and songwriter fusing sharp-witted lyrics with a strong jazz sensibility and swing.
His new EP, produced by Laurel Collective’s Charlie Andrew, features his exceptional live band that includes Rees and Glenn Bridges on drums and double bass. He is appearing solo at this year’s Local & Live Music Festival in Tunbridge Wells.
Live strings and brass underscore the songs, and Charlie Andrew’s producing talents (which are winning him a growing roster of bands including Man Like Me) come to the fore in the sumptuous strings of Navarro’s love struck ballad ‘Sober’ and the punchy brass on his lovesick ‘Strange Ways’.

Jenny Ridley found her passion for writing and composing at the age of thirteen as a way of expressing her internal emotions. Her music is a reflection of listening to influences from the mid sixties and seventies such as Joni Mitchell and Neil Young to more modern artists such as Sarah Mclachlan and Tori Amos. Her dark warm vocals combined with her individual folk sound help to reflect her poetic lyrics, which explore the unfathomable depths of the human soul. Jennifer has played in many of the venues locally and has recently been appointed to compose a backing track for a short film, which is to be entered into both national and international film festivals.

Hi, I’m Phoebe Katis and I’m 17 years old and studying for my A levels. I have been classically trained on piano and cello and began writing songs at the age of 13 with ‘Invisible’. My style ranges from indie pop through contemporary folk to jazz! I try to keep the vocals pure and simple and for this I draw inspiration from the late Eva Cassidy. I also admire the way Alicia Keys’ songs allocate a particular melody line or part to the piano but still hold the vocals prominent. Other musical influences include KT Tunstall, Jill Jackson, John Mayer, Jamie Cullum, Nerina Pallot and Norah Jones.
I have supported acts such as Amy Wadge and Logan Wilson and last year I made my first solo appearance at the monthly Music Club at the Bull in Benenden. I don’t know why I started writing songs……it just happened and now I don’t want to stop. Of course in every artists’ mind there is always the dream of fame and top ten hits. That sounds pretty fine to me but I’m all for ‘keeping it real’ and striving to improve. Maybe in time all the work I put in will pay off and, if it doesn’t, I can say I’ve had a damn good go at it! As Christina Aguilera once said ‘the rockiest road often leads to the top’……… amen to that!
