Popular local four-piece band Origami Dinosaur was created by Kinsey Green (lead vocals) and Mejelon Majones (lead Guitar/vocals) in a loft in the English town of Tunbridge Wells. Through their combined love of music and passion for all things strange and beautiful, they wrote songs to inspire a disillusioned youth, or just to make them smile. Their style gets its distinction from the very wide influences of the band, rooted in blues and funk but certainly not defined by it, this is giant riffs with quirky beats, disco funk bass and male/female vocal jam insanity. Refreshingly different, obscenely odd, there is nothing quite like origami dinosaur! Funky drummer Robin O'Keeffe joined the band in 2008 followed by bass extraordinaire, MOLE...the band’s very own flea, and on occasion they are joined by special guest, disco mentalist: 'Afro Joe'. The band have an exciting 2009 planned, now officially sold out of the first 2 E.P's, both recorded at local studio 'lo-tek' by producers bombay monkey. new recordings are on their way and are taking new direction and style. Now half the group resides in Brighton, they are dividing their time between their home town and their new town!
Originally formed as a three piece back in 2001, indie rock band Cyrano soon became a foursome with the addition of lead guitarist, Karl Barton. From this moment on, their sound was born. With influences from bands like Pearl Jam and Elbow, Cyrano have crafted a unique blend of thoughtfully written songs, rock guitars and Tom Yorke-esque vocals resulting in a hugely melodic sound. The band are currently recording their second album in Assault and Battery Studios in London. Their first album "I, You, Us, Them" is available to buy on CD and iTunes. The band’s line up is Joe Ackerley on Vocals and guitar, Matt Wilson on drums, Tim Hubbard on bass and vocals, and Karl Barton on lead guitar.
High-wire vocals, explosive guitars, pounding drums, a sweet lullaby piano, a bass that wants to groove and melodies that surround you like a wreath of freshly blown smoke… None of this was meant to happen. A once quietly married man, Barney Jameson’s life fell apart in 2007, and he was left with an old guitar and a clutch of songs. He began to play solo, shouting to be heard above the clamour of more established artists. But then came Steve McCormack, Sam Nesbitt, Matt Wilson and David Robinson – the Hollow Men. Suddenly everything was louder. The songs soon followed – Black & White Films, Cling, Tooth & Claw, Smoking Kills – sometimes fierce, sometimes gentle, at once drenched in melancholy but gloriously full of hope. They have seen the band become a major name in the Kent music scene in less than a year, with a headline slot at the 2011 Local & Live festival and much more to come.
“mystical and enchanting” –– “pure, expressive & emotive” –– “a mellifluous honey toned voice that touches the soul” –– “voice that makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck” –– “an evocative style delivered with resonant clarity”
Joanne Louise Parker is re-emerging after time away from regular performing. The past year has been spent working on her debut album with Brighton based singer/songwriter producer Max Gilkes.
Originally from the Cambridgeshire Fenland, her musical apprenticeship has ranged from classical through folk and jazz to popular music with a folk roots blues style that observes the spiritual and emotional landscape.
A regular on the open mic scene in both the UK and overseas, Joanne is known for her cappella songs which are used to good effect to silence the room when it’s her turn to sing. Fans say she has a voice which “makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck”.
She has travelled extensively and performed her songs to audiences great and small from the West Coast of the US to as far east as Russia. Joanne’s recent support slot credits include Eliza Carthy, Gretchen Peters, Brian Kennedy and Jane Siberry.
Moontide will be released in the Autumn and will feature orchestrated evolutions of Joanne’s original songs.
Paul’s music is best described as a captivating fusion of alternative/pop and classical. He composes and performs both instrumental pieces and songs. With influences such as modern day artists; Ben Folds, Elbow, Turin Brakes and composers such as John Barry, Samuel Barber and Rachmaninov, Paul is an artist that offers something different. Following his 3 previous album releases; ‘Ordinary Guy’, ‘Train of Thought’ and live album ‘Escapism’, Paul recently released his first EP entitled ‘The Sirens ‘which is available for purchase at live performances and downloads are available at Itunes and all good online retailers. The EP features Paul’s larger ensemble known as The Paul Dunton Orchestra, which comprises a line-up of up to 12 violins & 6 Cellos, guitar, double-bass and flute.
