Headline Act: Son Of Kirk

Son of Kirk is a meeting of hearts and minds. A constantly evolving musical force driven by four uniquely creative individuals, who build on a foundation of inspired song-writing and strong melodic and lyrical interplay.

Interweaving violin, cello and syncopated guitar lines, combine with dance and Afro beat informed percussive drum patterns and elements of improvisation. Four part harmonies create overlapping vocal lines, inspired by tribal and folk traditions. Expect to be taken on multiple rhythmic twists and turns, by songs that circle and hover, unveil and reveal.

The members of Son of Kirk grew up in varying backgrounds around the world, from Australian cults, to the wilds of West Africa, through American suburbia, to the industrial Midlands and the lush, green beauty of The Garden of England, ultimately coming together on the Tunbridge Wells music scene.

The band are currently working on new songs to be released as a series of E.P.s with accompanying films. The first of these ‘Utopia Shake’ is available to view on Facebook. Songs are available at iTunes

The Breaks

Normally found hanging out at Dud’s farm in the depths of Ashdown Forest, The Breaks are a lightly-bearded, folk-tinged pop band from the darker side of Tunbridge Wells. Influenced by acts like Okkervil River, Bonnie Prince Billy, Iron & Wine and Husky, their sound is at times melancholic, occasionally menacing, and always melodic, rich and tuneful. The band includes singer-songwriter Stu Cardwell on vocals and guitars, Andy Shonfeld on bass, Al Smith on vocals, keys, guitar, mandolin and banjo, and Alex Cooper on drums and percussion.

Recently to be found playing in and around T. Wells as frontman with The Harveys, this is Peter’s first ever solo venture.

His previous bands include SW3, Sweetheart, Transformer, Citron, The Red Guitars and The Flagmen.

The solo show will draw from all these previous bands as well as new unheard material.

With genre influences from folk, country, punk and pop the song is always key.

Peter is currently putting a new band together to back this project.

Gronk

Raised by pack animals in the south, Gronk was subsequently stationed in the Home Counties where he studied for A-Levels in navelgazing before escaping to London. He found moderate success with gothic psych-rock band Carnival of Souls in the early noughties, before meeting near-indifference at a handful of solo gigs in Brixton. A trip to the US followed, during which he discovered the marimba and returned to form the Body Doubles, a shambolic rock 'n' roll act currently limping around London's sawdust venues. Gronk writes folk and rock songs bolstered by a healthy dose of gallows humour, and appears tonight with Body Doubles lead guitarist Claud "the musket" Musker.
