The Good Ship Band is a rock pop four piece from Tonbridge, Kent, UK. Formed in March 2009, the band have sold over 1000 copies of their debut album, released 6 singles, supported Keane, and have received 11 record deal offers to date; testimony to their relentless gigging throughout the South East and two irresistibly melodic albums. Propelled by the songsmithery of frontman Jez Harley and guitarist/signed songwriter Ed Bingham (NorthStar Music), the band's recent airplay has drawn comparisons with Fleet Floxes, Paolo Nutini and Kings of Leon.
With top bassist James Elliott and session drummer Simon Whiting completing the line-up, the band’s live reputation has resulted in the act being sought out by all corners of the industry. Following a flood of offers, TGSB were approached by video-makers Blindeye Films (Sigur Ros, Bryan Ferry, Eliza Doolittle) and the two parties collaborated to produce a stunning promo for live favourite ‘Hometown’. With such momentum, the band released 'Boomerang Girl' followed shortly by the eagerly anticipated second album, 'The Good Ship Band - Part 2’. Part 3 is already on the way, with more live shows booked and recording dates in the pipeline.
Quentin Holway, otherwise known as Alfie Noakes for reasons no-one can recall, is a local type who writes songs and then plays them to people.
He was in the Moonshot Blues Band, later called the Moonshots, who did quite a lot of stuff a while back, playing all over the UK and Europe to great acclaim. They stopped and Quentin went solo, playing all over the UK and Europe to great acclaim. He also formed the band Sevenscore, playing all his own songs, and recorded the album Safe and Dry, which has become something of a rarity due to there never being that many copies of it in the first place.
There is talk of a new album, due for release about four years ago, and maybe a T-shirt. His influences include Christopher Hitchens, Neil Sedaka and roast chicken, in that order. If you rolled John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Thom Yorke and Nick Drake into one, you'd end up with a very peculiar looking person.
Kay Hazelden is an acoustic artist from Crowborough, writing songs of: Love, loss, hate, fear, sickness and hope. Kay captures what can quite be simply the harsh realities of life with a contemporary twist but it’s not all doom and gloom! Self taught guitarist Kay steadily built her audience on YouTube with her iconic tongue and cheek song ‘Crowborough Sucks’ which was featured in The Courier. Since then Kay has built her audience by expanding her repertoire and playing gigs locally at places such as: The Forum, The Strangers Arms, Sevenoaks Festival, The Bus Stop Festival, The Hub, Rotherfest and so on.
Her vocal style — which is influenced by artists such as Kate Bush, Florence and The Machine and The Cranberries — is distinctive and matchless in comparison to other female artists in the same field.
So, what does the future hold? Although Kay’s musical journey is only beginning she to plans to start recording an EP and eventually an album in the near future.
