I am currently working with producers on my songs, ultimately working on producing a five track EP album; my main goal is to gain representation through a record label, so that I can release my music, to have a marketing plan to go with this, and to get songs released and on the radio. I have had songs played through internet radio stations; I also have a myspace site, among other promotional tool sites, which are updated regularly and are listed below. At this present time I have been asked to sing for functions, pubs and other music venues, performing my own material and covers. I perform in pubs, festivals and venues locally at present, and have been promoting the release of the single 'Travelling,' produced by Forbes Coleman (FC Music Project). This is now available from ITunes, and other downloadable sources. I will be promoting my next single ‘Freefalling’ once available. My aim will again, be to promote this single through radio play; and it will be made available to buy online. I will soon be working on my next project which is to complete and make available for download a 5 track EP of my music.
Along with producing a five track EP, I have been recording an acoustic album, to sell at gigs. The idea of this album is that it is our live performance sound. This may appeal to anyone who prefers the acoustic, folk music sound. The album ‘Freefalling’ will be made available to buy at gigs shortly.
My own experience in music and the performing arts have been varied; I have performed over the years, in shows, and my own material. The places I have performed in include: Glyndebourne Opera House, Chequers Mead, East Grinstead, Lewes Town Hall; Ireland, London and for functions, and festivals. I am currently in two duos; one of which is a cover duo, and the other I promote my own music through. At present I am in the process of creating a band to accompany me performing my own material. I hope to be performing regularly locally and nationally, showcasing my music through recitals, and further performances.
I am at present taking my final year at Brighton Institute of Modern Music studying for (BA Hons) Professional Musicianship (vocals). This course allows me to work on my professional goals as a singer-songwriter.
I have also just completed a Music Production FDA with Sussex Downs College, Eastbourne.
Born on the 17th January 1988, Alex Beharrel has always been somehow involved with music. From the young age of 8 he was singing in the choir as well as taking part in the Beckingham festival with his classical guitar. From there Alex has always experimented with different genres of music from classical to rock to blues but then found a neutral divide with acoustic music. Taking part in a two-year music course at west Kent College, Alex boosted his knowledge of music and improved his performance skills and to this day is still performing and trying to adapt to the ever-changing world of music. His influences (to name some among many) would include the likes of Bruce Cockburn, Herbie Hancock, Barenaked ladies, Elliot Smith, and Daivd Bowie.
‘October Rising' are Mike A & John, long-time collaborators who played, toured, wrote and generally caused mayhem together as part of Indie Rock outfit SilverSky.
During their time in SilverSky they played in some of the best & worst venues in the country, with gigs at The Shepherd's Bush Empire, Carling Academy Islington, The Borderline, The Garage, Guilfest & The Rhythm Factory as well as tours to Ireland & France.
The band shot 2 videos, released a bunch of EPs worldwide, had some scorching reviews (and a few nasty ones.....) and had radio play on BBC London & BBC Kent as well as student radio across the country. At one point a track by the band was playlisted on 30 Australian record stations at the same time......quite some feat for an unsigned and relatively unknown band.
Despite the break-up of SilverSky in early 2009, Mike & John managed to stay good friends and whilst contemplating life outside the band they started doing acoustic versions of a few tracks they'd written together at open mic nights.
The sound of 'October Rising' was born from this period and whilst many of the songs owe a debt to the high-energy legacy of SilverSky, both Mike & John were determined to move on and establish a new direction in both their writing & performing.
The result is beautiful, spirited, acoustic folk-rock played with flair and passion. Elements of blues, country & soul are mixed together with modern rock & pop, whilst a love for acoustic music is tempered by an inability to sit still for long enough to ever be considered a 'proper' acoustic act.
“October Rising play Americana-inspired folk with a current edge and fiery passion like no other act." -- John B @ Reel Concerts
